A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked quite a lot with elementary school children, whether it be in or outside of work. I have done independent tutor work, mainly in the fields of Art and Language Arts. In the past I had a long-term job in which I was required to interact with young children, and I did so willingly. For two years in a row, I taught a Beginner's Guitar course for children and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. I enjoy very much seeing things "click" with students, particularly young ones. It inspires me not only do teach well but also to always learn more myself.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very student friendly. I engage the student in working out easy examples, which provide an illustration of fundamentals. Part of my process is to "walk through" an example with the student, showing them a process to solve a given problem. I then assign a problem for them to work out. This resembles a test-like environment where the student can figure out what he/she does not understand.
As a MSU graduate, I have experience in math up to linear algebra and abstract algebra. This includes calc 1,2, and 3 as well as differential equations. I also have taught at Michigan State University's Champ program, which is where I tutored algebra and geometry to advanced high school students. Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.
I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.

Being currently enrolled in one of the Top 20 schools in the state of Michigan, learning is something that comes to me as second nature. Math, English, Science, Foreign Language and History are the five required subjects in the Troy School District, and they offer hundreds of other courses to excel the student body into a wide range of future careers. My strengths include writing and editing papers, biology, astronomy, algebra, Spanish and music. I also have taken extracurricular activities in music to better understand music theory. A Little Bit About Me...

I've always enjoyed the art of communicating complicated material to those who are just learing or don't quite "get it". My focus is to break things down into basic elements and achieve agreement. Then, support learning with repetition. For example: "Would you agree that if we add 5 and 5 and then another 5 that we would end up at 15?" "So, then, 5 added together three times equals 15, right?" I'm also a big fan of mindmapping for education, so I tend to use it when I lecture at college, and I encourage my students to use it as a visual recall tool.
