I was not able to obtain a teaching job when I graduated from college so went to work in the field of business. My jobs included: private secretary to a County Judge, bookkeeper, loan processor for a savings and loan, receptionist, cashier, manager, assistant librarian and owner of an electric motor repair business. These experiences have given me a wide under-standing of the business world and of the different personalities of people. I have also been a substitute teacher in several different subjects. It is also necessary to determine the student's learning style so that teaching will be as efficient and successful as possible. I really enjoy ideas. One of my favorite things is to see someone make a connection for the first time between two ideas or concepts. I enjoy teaching through dialogue and conversation. I have a gift, I'm told, for analogies, and for explaining things in ways that enable people to understand new or complex ideas. My goal in teaching is always to help the students make personal connections with the material, and to show them how the "theoretical" topic of study intersects their life in a real, practical way.
