I have experience with teaching adults how to read at my local literacy organization. Also, I have tutored children with Reading and Math. I was a substitute teacher for students from Pre Kindergarten through High School with different subjects and disciplines. I have found that reward goes much farther than ridicule or punishment when motivating a student to believe in themselves, and thus excel. I also teach the importance of information. Some students are more aggressive and advanced but there are those who are silent and will not speak out about difficulties understanding competencies. I prefer not to embarrass those students but give them the opportunity to learn one-on-one. While some students have a difficult time with teacher/student ratio, I like to give the option of working with another student who may understand the content and can teach another peer.
