I believe that in order for students to obtain knowledge, they must develop some level of interest in the subject. As a teacher, I try to understand the student's mind in order to present the material in such a way that it will fit together with the student's preexisting knowledge. If a student is passionate about sports or video games, I try and use examples and metaphors from those respective areas within the lessons. Students must to be shown rather than told why a subject is important, and I believe that effective learning happens when teachers build on the knowledge base that students have already developed experientially throughout their lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

My two and half years of teaching math and physics in high school as well as 8 years of college teaching taught me a great deal about encouraging learning. I also believe that my ability to communicate makes me especially well suited to help students achieve academically. My experiences dramatically improved and expanded my communication skills since I was constantly meeting new people and discussing different topics. I have been a substitute and long-term substitute in SFPS since Oct., 2009. This has been a real eye-opener about the American public schools. A Little Bit About Me...

As an Electrical Engineering student at Virginia Tech, I tutored other students in all subject matter related to my field. I tutored for three years privately and one year at the Electrical Engineering department tutring center. Since then I have worked for about four years in my field professionaly. However, I have found tutoring is my real passion and am now pursuing this opportunity. Preference is Calculus and related mathematics but all Electrical Engineering material is acceptable.
