I basically teach according to what the students like or is familiar with (art, sport, etc.) and I utilize what they're good at with the subject matter. For instance, if a student is into baseball, I teach math using scoring method, countries where players are from for social studies, speed of running, throwing, etc. for teaching science, and so on. With the younger students, I oberve them during choice time or free play and document what areas they are attracted to the most, how they interact with each other and their conversations. For about year now have been teaching ASL and Interpreting for 6 years. I always have a deaf person accompany for the class. The particular one I would bring was born deaf and has superb skills in speech therapy. Therefore, she can read lips and is an excellent and patient instructor as well. She has a perfect balance of the hearing world and the spoken language and the deaf/hard of hearing world. She has previously worked as a nanny for 9 years and is excellent with teaching children ASL as well.
