A Little Bit About Me...

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Upon graduating from Queens College I obtained a position as a middles school science teacher in New York’s Spanish Harlem. After 2 ½ years of dealing with extremely difficult and dangerous situations I decided to move on to take various careers in industry. In 1985 I became the field service representative for NEC America. As a field service representative I traveled around the United States giving seminars to electronic technicians on how to service and repair NEC’s cellular equipment. In 1989 with the birth of my first child I became a full time Mr. Mom. I truly enjoy working with others and watching the proverbial "light bulb" go off when a student "gets it." I am very comfortable and confident when working with individuals of all ages. I can contour my teaching styles to benefit adults, young students, and children. One of my primary goals as a tutor is of course to help the student comprehend the subject matter, but also to instill a sense of confidence in him or her. I believe that when a student is confident that he or she can do the work, he or she will do the work! If I can help one student succeed in his or her academic goals, I have succeeded in accomplishing mine.

More About This Tutor...

Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.
I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.
