I have just completed a Master's Program in the Arts of Teaching at Sacred Heart University. I completed 10 weeks of student teaching where I took on all the responsibilities of a full time 7th grade English teacher. Throughout all of high school and college I worked with children ages 3-15 and taught them how to swim in a Massachusetts accredited program in my hometown. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I took a variety of creative writing courses both in high school and college, and have a strong passion for the subject. I am experienced in both storyline, plotline, and the various aspects of the creative writing process, such as character development or exposition.

As an instructor, my style is usually to help a writer discover what they are trying to say, even if they aren't sure of it. From there, we can tackle the point and purpose of their story, which will help all of the other aspects click together. Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! I have an MFA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and have had 11 short stories published. I also edited the award-winning children's book Lucas the Traveling Crab by David Rawding.

My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : Several published works in independent fiction publications. Two years experience as manuscript reviewer.

I believe in identifying where a student lies on the subject he/she is studying before going further. The advantage of one on one tutoring compared to classroom is that the lesson can be based around where the student’s strengths and weaknesses are rather than a blanket method. I also believe that the skills used in English can be best practiced and analyzed through writing rather than worksheets and tests. Therefore, I believe in having the student write on a variety of subjects and working through these pieces to show where they can improve.

As far as teaching goes, I am mostly here to help the person with the way they write their papers, organization of paragraphs, spelling, whether or not the writing makes sense to the reader, and whether or not the reading understands what is written.
