I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in second grade. I think it is so important for children to be successful in school so they enjoy their experience and want to go to school. I believe that all children learn in different ways and I will work with you and and your child to help discover how they learn best. I will then create lessons based on their learning style, such as hands on learning. By doing this I have found that children are more successful when they learning in a way that works best for them. After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. In the last 2 years, I have taught art for levels EC-8th and created a teen development program with daily tutoring. I teach with a focus on self exploration plus knowledge of natural forms. In other words, I encourage students to express themselves in their own unique way, yet I teach all the natural forms, including fauna and flora, perspective and the human form, by drawing examples. I help students master the ability to draw what they see, encouraging composition, color, shading and personal style. I have taught art to students since 1981. High school students have been my assistants through the summer youth employment program, for 3 NYC public mural projects. I have taught as an artist-in the-schools since 1985, teaching grammar school students printmaking and mural making, both in Brooklyn NY and in the Hudson Valley. I love to educate children of many ages I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old in the house. You teach many different aspects of life, not just academically. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. Substitute teaching grades K-8 was rather different because the children acted as though they haven't learned anything, so you had to make them feel comfortable.
