In conclusion, I think that I can still be successful in teaching. I however, need to find what area that I can be most successful at. I think that with my non-traditional training and experience, that a similar position would give me the opportunity to be most successful. One thing that I have thought a great deal about these past few weeks, is that I am entering middle age and must be a success at something. In the past, I have found the most enjoyment and fulfillment working with special needs and incarcerated students. Being a big sister has always been my favorite job; therefore, I have always sought out opportunities to mentor. I believe that each child is unique and learns at his or her own pace, and in her or his own special way. Each person understands concepts differently, and I believe that, to be effective, a teacher must discover from what angle to approach a lesson, for the student's optimum ability to absorb the information. I am very patient with my pupils, and I try to create an environment for the student that is comfortable and friendly, so that they feel safe to learn and apply the things they are learning.
