My comments on tutoring Calculus I : I received a score of 4 in the AP Calculus test

I Graduated from Killeen High School in 2014 with a G.P.A. of 3.9 with a class rank of 7 out of over 400 students. I have received a score of 3 in the AP World History, U.S. History, and Government and received a score of 4 in the subjects of English IV, Economics, Computer Science, and Calculus. I Recently finished my first year of college at Our Lady of the Lake University, which is a Catholic liberal arts Institution. My comments on tutoring Calculus I : I struggled through the first few weeks of calculus. It was one of the most difficult courses I took in college. I had to revamp my entire method of studying. I went to group tutoring and did more homework problems then was assigned, and I ended up doing rather well. I understand the daunting nature of the complex problems that calculus presents.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. My teaching style is one focused on hands on. I set up one class in Del Mar where the students developed a Web site for an outside nonpropfit client for free in one semester. This was well received, provided good experience to students and built good relationship between education and local industry. I loved moving from working in industry with computers to be teaching how to used them. The one on one experience with students teaching them to become computer experts was challenging and very exciting. Helping a student to progress is great and very rewarding.

As a engineer I have been training operators in everything form SPC to troubleshooting for 30 years. I am a volunteer tutor for Adult ESL & GED for the Literacy Council of Williamson County since June 2009.
I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. While in college (1988-1994), I worked as a grader in the math department, with a goal of providing useful feedback to the students. I also began working as a tutor at Austin Community College (ACC) in their free learning labs at this time. I have worked at ACC for about 10 years, tutoring math classes from basic math through calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, discrete math and probability. I also tutor physics, chemistry, statistics and writing.
