I believe all children have their own pace and develop their own learning styles in which they are able to comprehend the knowledge that is being taught to them. Teaching Science I learned that by observing and working hands-on with experiments children really get involved with the process and in the outcome learn from the experience. I believe by letting students experience education they are more involved in their education and want to learn.
Since my graduation from Southeaster Oklahoma State University I substituted on all grade levels from pre-k to 12th grade for 2 years. I have always loved to teach, and loved to travel and meet new people. This led to traveling for a summer during college to Mexico City, living with a Spanish-speaking family. I also spent twelve weeks in West Africa teaching ESL and speaking French before my senior year at OBU. After graduation, I lived in Northern California (where I had also spent a summer during college), teaching ESL to adult Mexican immigrants, tutoring middle-school Korean students, and spending one summer in Southeast Asia while earning a Masters and TESL certificate. I now confidently teach ESL writing and grammar at a community college, as well as tutor children in ESL for a local public school. I also home school an advanced first grader.
