I am a Special Education teacher of thirty years. I have certifications in Learning Disabilities as well as an English certification for the Middle school level. I have experience in the general education, self contained, and Inclusion classroom settings.I have a special ability to pinpoint learning problems and understand how students learn best. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.
I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it.

Every student learns differently, so what may work for one will not work for another. I am a very hands-on and nurturing instructor who loves learning from the student even as I teach them.
