I have worked in school setting since 2003. During my time before teaching I had the opportunity to work one on one, push in and pull out to work with multiple students, substitute teaching in classroom, assist principal in disciplining students from the bus, classroom, etc... Worked in an after school program assisting with homework help. My 6 years of teaching have been in emotional support 4-6 and k-2 and 6th grade math only regular education.

I enjoy working with children and young adults. I attempt to find the methods/means by which the student learns best. My initial objective is to ascertain the student’s learning goals. Then I familiarize myself with the material with which the student is currently working, so as to develop a successful learning approach. This is an ongoing process as the student progresses. I am patient and considerate of any learning problems the student may have, and adjust my teaching methods accordingly, although I am not an expert in learning disabilities. My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution
I have taught mathematics, statistics and technical math for 15 years. Primarily my audience has been working adults seeking to take a certification examination. I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
