I like to share my passion that comes from the pure enjoyment of understanding a subject and sharing this passion with my students. As an engineer I try to show the practical application of concepts, and from my interests in history and literature I try to provide an historical context to the development of the concept being taught. Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience.
