Students come with various background and motivation levels and ways of learning. A tutor needs to be able to discover within the student the best way for that student to learn. I believe students should be pressed not to memorize facts but to use critical thinking skills, tying things together and seeing relations so a multitude of similar problems can be solved. There are many ways science can be taught. Over the years, I have found that tutoring works best by breaking the material down into mini lessons, give the students guided practice in solving problems (we solve it together), and then independent practice where the student demonstrates mastery of the concept. I spent one year as a Headstart teacher. I have several years of substitute teaching experience working with different subjects and grades. I was a tutor throughout college. I just began tutoring again this year for CARE. I have recently tutored chemistry & biology. I love working with kids. I try to make things as simple as I can in hopes that the student will understand it. I think it is important to praise kids ( ex. good job) to boost their self esteem. I am a Cougars graduated and I have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and minor in math graduating with A's in both areas. During college I tutored a lot of math courses from basic to upper level of calculus. I can speak a little Spanish and am fluent in Vietnamese I love to work with children. I had 2 of my own.
