Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. As a former high school chemistry teacher, I am aware of the skills and content students need to grasp to be successful in their high school careers. I have had extensive tutor training as an undergraduate, earning a level III tutor training certificate, so I am also aware of the different roles that teachers and tutors play in the learning process. In January of 2008, I was hired to work at the University of Akron – Wayne College Learning Center as a peer tutor. We are responsible for helping students that come in seeking tutoring (including test preparation and homework help). Over the past two plus years, I have tutored students in mathematics (college level basic math 1 through calculus one) and chemistry. I have loved Chemistry ever since I was in high school. I continued on to pursue my BS in Chemistry and learned a lot, not only in that field, but also in many areas of math as well. I have continued on in my education and am currently in the final year of my PhD, studying Polymer Science.
