A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I prefer an interactive teaching style where the student determines how much they get out of it. I generally will not give a student an answer but will help them along until they can answer the question for themselves, thus making them more independent learners.
As a tutor, I primarily held 1 on 1 appointments several days a week. I primarily tutored in all levels of chemistry from general to biochem and I also tutored in accounting due to the introductory course that I had. My work as a supplemental instructor was by far the most rewarding. My job was to attend the Nursing Chemistry lectures and to take notes and create my own worksheets based on the material. I then conducted 2 review sessions per week to help the students master the material.
