I'll explain it the way you need me to - gchang327@gmail.com

I'm currently a student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and I've covered many subjects in my 15 years of education. I've learned many of them well enough to teach them to my younger sister, who has ensured I review every subject two years after I complete it, rather than forget it forever. I have also helped many of my classmates understand various concepts as we learned them, which allowed me to improve my own understanding and my ability to explain things in ways that differed from the ways that didn't work coming from teachers.
I specialize in understanding individual challenges and struggles and adapting my teaching and providing clarifying examples. My explanations are thorough and enhanced by my focus on listening to people.

Literature is one of my top subjects!

I am very flexible and patient. I believe as a teacher one should act serve a midwife from the student to the understanding of a skill or concept. I want students to learn through instruction and fully integrate that learning through open dialogue and application.
I am an enthusiastic life-long learner and teacher. I've spent my life reading and loving literature. I want to share that skill and joy with as many people as possible. My time at the University of Minnesota was a formative experience, there I learned the essentials of reading great books and articulating critical thinking through written word.

I believe that every child has the ability to be a successful learner, and I enjoy watching my students grow and improve at different paces. My goal is to make each child feel comfortable in their learning environment, while challenging each student according to their level of ability. I respond well to students who become easily frustrated, and adjust my teaching style accordingly. It can only take one teacher to make a difference in a child's educational path. It is my goal to be that kind of teacher.
I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. My minor area of study while at River Falls was Psychology, and over the course of my college career, my interest in the topic has developed into a career goal. As a tutor I have discovered that everyone learns differently; therefore, I try to find ways to adapt my own tutoring style to the learning styles of the people I tutor. I can be more hands-on if the student requires it, but I can also act as more of a general guide. I believe that it is important for the students to be in charge of the sessions, so I try my best to take my cues from them. I also think it is important to have realistic expectations of the students I tutor. My goal is not to make them English majors or professional writers, but to give them the tools they need to write as effectively as they possibly can.
I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a degree in English and a minor in professional writing. I also worked as a tutor at the University's Writing Center for two and a half years, where I assisted college students in writing and ed ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. Currently, I am an Office Manager for a small construction company
As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I embrace a unique passion for teaching children, especially for working with students on a one-on-one basis. I thrive on connecting with each student as an individual, and enhancing their academic lives in ways they may not get in other environments. I strive to "find" every child's gift, and celebrate it. I observe the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and work with the teaching team and parents to determine steps in building on each identified success and/or challenge. My dream is to forever work with children in an effort to provide them knowledge, safety, consistency, and love.
I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to learn and help others do the same, whether it is helping a high school dropout pursue and finish their GED or teaching and mentoring children and young adults in volunteer settings; I love to teach, but more importantly, I enjoy trying to find the best way or creative ways to help others learn, understand and grow as people. My teaching style would be described by others as friendly, firm and yet very creative but thorough.
As a graduate of the University of Saint Thomas, I have an English degree and am a few classes/credits short of a Business Administration degree. At Bethel University I pursued a Secondary Education teaching certificate. Seeing an opportunity to teach high school english in Texas, I pursued teaching and volunteer teaching while living and working in Texas. As an instructor at Minnesota School of Business, I taught composition, business writing, technical writing, English grammar, and communication theory to adult students of all ages and a wide variety of backgrounds, including many ESL students. In a class of 20 students, writing ability ranged from negligible to excellent, so it was a challenge to keep all of them interested and to ensure improvement across the board. Since leaving MSB, I have tutored several ESL students in writing and grammar, mostly online. I continue to write and edit professionally.
I prefer a casual learning environment, one that includes appropriate humor and an appreciation for students' individuality. My most rewarding experiences as a teacher were when students who came into the class with an "I hate writing" attitude learned to use language to express themselves -- and had fun doing it. Many students tol ... read more

I enjoy teaching, working with, and learning with children. Children have different learning styles and temperaments and I try to adapt my teaching to these differences. I am creative, patient, and enthusiastic. I firmly believe that children can learn more when there is support or scaffolding from good educators such as myself. I am also sensitive to cultural differences in learning. All children can learn and develop if provided with the right environment, experiences, and social interactions. My goal is to make learning fun and to encourage children's natural sense of curiosity and wonder.
I am a life-long learner and have two master's degrees, one from Harvard. Because of my deep interest in how children learn, I also have a degree in child development. As a teacher's aide in a public school kindergarten, I spent five years tutoring children in reading, writing, math, scie ... read more

I have been a teacher for ten years. I have been substitute teaching between contract French teaching assignments. I have worked with, taught, and tutored students of different classes, different ethnic and racial backgrounds. I have substituted many different subjects and taught students at many different levels and abilities. I have tutored adults in basic education for their GED exam as well as adult ELL/ESL students. I have taught summer school high school Math and English and proctored the exams for the MN basic standards graduation tests.
I don't have a style. I try to go with the flow. What that means is I assess what the students know, what they don't know, and what they need to know and adjust what I teach and how I teach it accordingly. I can go over/review information as many times as students need it. It is important to go back to the old information that was le ... read more
