I believe that understanding statistics is not beyond the grasp of any student. The first step lies in understanding the underlying principles. Once this is grasped, only practice is needed to give the student the degree of confidence needed to solve such problems on a test or homework assignment. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University. The field of industrial engineering draws much from statistics. Therefore a large portion of the curriculum is comprised of statistics courses. I have a background in basic statistics, regression analysis, data mining, design of experiments, statistical forecasting, and quality control. My experience teaching started when I worked for Northlands Job Corps Academy. The students that I helped usually came to me not for their classwork, but because they held an interest in learned how their computers and personal devices worked. I feel that most learning comes from performing an activity rather than being lectured, so I prefer to give students a chance to perform the work after I show them a few basics (supervised of course). I am a Senior Computer Science major at Siena college; my programming experience covers a range of languages, although my strongest is Java. I am currently certified by CompTIA as an IT Technician (A+ Certification), and have built 5 personal desktops over the years for clients.
