My comments on tutoring GED : I have tutored students preparing for the GED.

It is important to me that all children reach their best potential in whatever grade I am teaching. I have been in the teaching profession for 20 years and each day brings something different. Although, I came from a family of medical and science background, I have always wanted to teach and after 20 years, I am glad to say that I chose this profession. My goals are to meet each child at his/her learning level and provide the best education possible. I believe in varying my teaching style to suit each child thier cognitive abilities and grade level as it is my belief that all children can learn.
As a college graduate and a teacher, I have aspired to help students from K through college to achieve their goals and to be the best they can be. Aditionally, I have taught all grades K-12 and have implemented Study skills courses for students in Grades 3-12. Currently I am a Math S ... read more

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. Enabling a student to go out and discover the wonders around him/her through research and education is a wonderful thing indeed.
As an experienced Doctor and Teacher, I am dedicated to enabling individuals to set and attain life goals. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences. I was a teacher in the ... read more

I am a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in English. In addition to studying English I also studied fine arts (painting, drawing, art history) and Spanish. I have tutored students from ages 5-18 in all subjects including English (reading and grammar), math, social studies, and science. My reading and grammar skills are helpful in all subjects because I am able to take apart sentences and paragraphs so that it is easier for students to understand. With my English background I am very helpful with reading assignments and book reports. I can help students with writing and editing papers as well as recognizing plot, themes, and motifs in stories, novels, and poems.
I love teaching students of all ages and I recognize that most students do not get the help they need during the school day, which is why it is important for them to get the help they need outside of clas ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is inclusive of the hands-on approach. I believe that all students should have equal access to education. While that doesn't hold true, in the classroom, I encourage and appreciate students whom voice their opinion on a regular basis. I believe that all students also have a different approach to learning, and thus, they must be approached differently with different methods. Some students are definitely visual learners, while others are auditory or kinesthetic learners. Thus, it is important to acknowledge and implement different techniques to involve all students learning styles.
As a graduate of Miami University's College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a thematic sequence in Macroeconomics, I have the intellectual acumen to accommodate different types of students. Currently, I am a substitute teacher for Maumee City School ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I received a BS degree in chemistry and a minor in applied biology. My original thought was to attend medical school (I even took the MCAT), but decided to persue a PhD in inorganic chemistry instead. I have extensive experience in working with students. I worked as an organic chemistry lab assistant as an undergraduate. During graudate school, I taught both general and analytical chemistry. I am currently teaching chemistry classes at Terra State Community College.
I believe that anyone can understand the subject matter if it is presnted to them in a way that fits their unique learning style. I can demonstrate several ways to learn the same material, and have learned through my years of teaching experience how to quickly identify which method is best understood by an individual. I am patient and understanding, and I relate well to students. I have always received excellent ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As the child of teachers, I learned the value of a good education early in life. With my parents' guidance and encouragement, I obtained both a BS and a PhD in Chemistry (which included a Study-Abroad stint in the Netherlands). Following my time in Europe, I pursued a 25-year industrial chemistry career that was centered on the automotive, specialty chemical and building material industries. Additional activity in overseas technical transfers and global business has enhanced my communications skills (e.g., university-level funding proposal preparation). Over the past four years, my passion for education has led me to teach and tutor community college students in mathematics, chemistry and other physical sciences. My broad experience has allowed me to relate well to students as I am able to offer illustrative examples from industry to aid the learning process.

I enjoyed teaching children and adults. It is always special to me to help another in learning and gaining the knowledge behind a subject. It goes beyond memory and I believe in practice makes perfect. I believe that a child or an adult can learn if the opportunity is there in some constructive form, considering the learning levels of the students. If I can help one student make a change in their life to continue growing in learning and prospering in that learning to become a pillar of the community, then so be it. One should never give up on the possibilities from knowledge.

I beieve that learning comes about through constant questioning. The student needs to review where they are now and then be led through the new material by small steps. The student then needs to step back and review the connections between these steps. When the student begins to see the logic of mathematics the easier it is to retain the material. I try to provide concrete examples and relate the material to things with which they are familiar.
Although mathematics was my college minor, I spent 90% of my 30+ years in education teachingh the subject. Areas taught ranged from seventh grade math through Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II at the high school level. In addition, I taught algebra and trigonometry as a member of the adjunct faculty at Terra Community College. This breadth of areas taught, I believe, gives me an insight of the difficulties faced by students at many ... read more
