I first start by explaining the material the way that I understand it. I also show examples to show how the problems are solved. If it doesn't seem to be taking then I start to break the problems down into simple steps and explain each step until the student understands. I also try to relate the material to them so they can relate to the material on a more personal level so that the information will stick with them better.
During my time at Hampden-Sydney College, I was a math tutor, computer science tutor,and a physics tutor. I started tutoring my junior year of college where I just tutor math and computer science. I mostly help students with Calc I and Calc for Econ problems. In my senior year, I continued to tutor math, but I tutored stats instead of calculus. I also tutored physics.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a mechanical engineering graduate from Penn State, I have vast experience with the principles of physics and mathematics. As a junior and senior in high school I tutored students in algebra and trigonometry. In college I tutored students in my own physics classes as well as volunteering my time as a tutor for engineering students in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, basic electrical circuits, and heat transfer. My favorite part of tutoring is working with children who are frustrated with a subject and being able to break it down and teach it to them in a way that they can relate to. Also, the self-confidence the student gets that comes from being prepared for a test is very important.
My freshman year at Clemson I tutored 7th graders in math. I was also a tutor in high school for a k-6 school for children with low-income families. It has always been a passion of mine to help others with grasping a subject.

I thoroughly enjoy helping students learn and watching students succeed. Complex subjects such as chemistry can be overwhelming to some students and I believe that the best way to teach these subjects is to give the student a firm understanding of the whole concept and then concentrate on the specifics. Finding a way to relate a concept to a student is key. I find that just having someone there to explain a concept in a way that is easy to understand can change a student's whole perspective on a particular subject or discipline.
