A Little Bit About Me...

I obtained my BA in Social Work and have worked in that field since 1993. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. In this program and as a GED instructor I have tutored many individuals of varying ages, education levels and backgrounds. In my work as a social worker, I work primarily with children with mental health issues/learning disabilities where the focus is on behavior, organizational,study and communication skills and parenting education.

I have partnered with Verizon Thinkfinity to bring you teaching and learning material. I tutor from state specific standards. For example, I provide interactive games younger students can play in pairs or individually. For older students my resources are interesting and varied to meet their needs.
During the last eleven years, I have tutored students ranging from kindergarten to college level. I have learned extensive grammatical skills as an English Literature Major at the University of Texas. I graduated with a BA in English in 2007. During my undergrad work, I was a preschool teacher. I am currently affiliated with a nationwide adult literacy program, Project Read. I have brought 2 learning disabled teens into my home to help them graduate High School. Both have gone on to be Certified Welders. I have presided over the Parental Acceptance Committee for both Fremont and all five of WSOS HeadStart Counties and all the centers in the School Districts of those counties. A Little Bit About Me...

The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.
I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. Having attended Heidelberg College and receiving a Bachelor's degree in English, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Theater/Communications, I feel I have the necessary experience in order to educate others. Furthermore, I will receiving my Masters degree in English from Tiffin University this spring.
