With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". I first question the students in what they already know to see the areas that need less instruction. Then I ask them problems from their school texts and see how they do. This will give me some knowledge of where the student is failing and the area that needs more support. I then ask them at the session's end if they learned something and how that makes them feel.
