My teaching style is direct, engaging, challenging, and encouraging. My approach to instructing and enabling each individual is different. It develops as I continue to learn about the individual's own learning style and how the individual responds to different teaching styles. I believe that a child learns best when she makes the discovery, realization, or solves the problem herself. During the last three years of my undergraduate college career, I was a Mathematics tutor for student athletes. Although the courses covered while tutoring ranged from basic math to calculus, I am more comfotable tutoring algebra and geometry. I earned my BA with a double major in Mathematics and Russian in just four years. After college, I helped my sister and step-sister with their math and math-related physcis problems.
During my three years of formal tutoring, I was able to change my tutoring styles to fit the needs of the student. Everyone learns differently and it is important to realize and adjust my tutoring accordingly.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.
