A Little Bit About Me...

I have enjoyed teaching children since an early age. In high school, I started my own dance studio. I also began piano lessons in my home as well. During college i studied piano, voice and dance and continued teaching in these areas. I love helping others succeed and seeing them accomplish their goals.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Geneva College, I spent time developing my skills with working with children and young adults as a soccer coach. My first experience in the educational field was working as a paraprofessional at a private school for children with autism. I continued my work in education working as a caseworker with my primary focus being truancy and juvenile probation. I am currently in the process of enrolling for a Master's of Education degree which will enable me to teach history at a high school level. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently back in the Reading area after completing two years with Teach For America on Chicago's Southside. While there, I taught 9th Grade English/Test Prep and 6th Grade writing, which I loved! Two years ago, I graduated from Barnard College, which is the undergraduate women's college of Columbia University in New York. During my time in New York, I tutored many young children in English/writing and French conversation and grammar.Because of my content area, my tutoring strengths are English, writing, test-prep and grammar work. I tend to employ a quiet but direct approach to learning. Q and A sessions begin each session. We review the homework and past experiences of the student. I encourage students to write down their concerns and mark the areas of confusion at the time these arise. That way the students don't forget to bring them to my attention. I like to implement a variety of different strategies in order to keep students interested in the material. These strategies include discussions, projects, writing assignments, etc. I also believe that enthusiasm, no matter what the subject, is the key to keeping students interested. If you are boring, they will be bored, so I try to keep my lessons and my classroom lively. I also like to implement differentiated instruction, because I believe what works for one student will not necessarily work for another.
