A Little Bit About Me...

I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I love all people. I am an advocate of task-based learning, multiple intelligences, and the all-around inductive/constructivist approach to learning. I am a firm believer in the idea that all people have the same innate capacity to learn, but that this is manifested in different ways. This is particularly important because I beleive a good teacher should be able to discover the individual and specific ways that a student relates or acquires information best (visually, aurally, kinesthetically etc.) and can then take that information and develop appropriate excercises and teaching materials to help maximize that student's learning experience. During my years at Rocky Mountain College, I not only gained my degree in Literature with a minor in writing, but I also began teaching. As a student, I tutored an adorable foreign exchange student for a semester. I also served as a senior editor to the student publication Soliloquy, in which I selected, edited, and arranged writing pieces in the journal. I was also the dorm paper advisor, charging only a box of Chewy Chips Ohoy cookies for my paper editing skills, answering questions as to why you needed a period there instead of the never ending run-on sentence. After graduating, I stayed on at the college as the Activities Director and taught 3 freshman orientation classes. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Writing from the University of Nevada, Reno, and am currently in the process of applying to graduate school for Creative Writing. During the past year, I have tutored part-time as a writing tutor through the in-home tutoring company Study Buddies.
