A Little Bit About Me...

I am a life-long learner with degrees in Zoology & Philosophy, and I was the Valedictorian of my high school. I have 17 years of experience in the IT industry, mostly as a Technical Writer. I have taught in public school (Science for 6th-12th grades), I have tutored in the subjects of reading, writing, math, and science, and I have taught as a substitute in various subjects. I also have a great deal of volunteer experience with children: mentoring an 8-year-old boy for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, working with disabled children in a therapeutic horseback riding program, teaching horseback riding lessons to kids, volunteering for a children's shelter, and teaching an after-school program to 3rd-6th graders about pet-related subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

From the time I was in 4th grade, I have always had a strong passion to teach our young people and assist in developing the next generation that will run this country. Being deeply inspired by multiple teachers throughout my schooling, I too have wanted to make the same type of impact on children. Good teachers are the ones who wake up everyday excited to expand young minds and challenge them to strive for their potential. More About This Tutor...

I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
