Every child is different I think it's first important to take time to build trust and figure out your learning style. in the meantime we have to peddle through the school assignments as well I know we won't sacrifice the semester and I won't make you do assessments or at least not lots of them. just by learning what you like to do and what you are already good at we can start to find some creative ways to make learning fun again.
You see my degree, McPherson is a very traditional liberal arts college so I have what would qualify as a minor in Social Studies at almost any other university. I am the mom and aunt of dyslexic children, I know the struggles....I've been through the tears and hours of homework. There is no "quick fix" but we can experiment and find what works for you. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired trial lawyer from the State of Maryland. My career as a trial lawyer spanned 26 years and included hundreds of jury and non-jury trials in State and Federal Courts.I am still a member of the Washington D.C. Bar.My writing experience includes hundreds of motions and dozens of briefs.I have taught some college level courses in the Criminal Justice area. I taught ESL in South Korea for two months. I have taught Reading and Essay writing for a year. I also teach ACT Test preparation for these subjects At present I am tutoring several students.
I enjoy teaching and working with all children. I believe that virtually all children can learn with the proper motivation and encouragement. I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
