Academic Associates Reading Center

I am am a certified Reading Instruction Specialist and former fourth grade teacher. Most students rise 2-4 grade levels in under 50 hours of instruction using the Academic Associates Reading Program. The Academic Associates curriculum is a 13 lesson brain-based phonics curriculum. One of my favorite success stories is a student I'll call Mark. After completing only 7 lessons, Mark went from a 1.9 reading level to a 3.5 reading level. Because of his previous struggles in reading, the school he attended planned to retain him in the second grade. After only 2 months of instruction, the school called his mother to let her know that he would not be retained because of the remarkable improvement in his reading. Learning to read properly not only helped improve his grade, but prevented his being held back. I fully believe everyone can learn to read well if given the proper tools to do so. C ... read more

I have supplies and material that help children to have fun while learning English. Most of my children hate to see me leave when tutoring assignments have ended. I believe that learning can make a difference in one's quality of life, and should be a lifelong process. I have 8 years experience either teaching or tutoring elementary aged children in basic reading skills, academic reading, and elementary math, as well as writing basic essays and papers. In fact, parents have asked for me by name, and commented to others on how I have helped their children achieve academic success. I also, hold a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, have taught art, and love it!

More About This Tutor...

Many students struggle with relationships and well as their academics. I believe in creating a safe, nuturing environment were a student is able to work at his own pace, at his own level, and feel a bond with his teacher. Setting realistic and obtainable goals with the student is a key factor to success. Measuring and documenting progress allows student, teacher, and family to see a visual record of growth. Addressing multiple intelligences and multiple learning styles are essential for struggling students. Finding a student's best mode of learning increases self-esteem and time on task.
I have 20 plus years of teaching experience. I have worked with students from pre-school age to adults. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities and functioning levels from severely impaired to gifted.
