Young children learn best through things that have meaning to them. For example, I once tutored a child that had difficulty learning his multiplication tables, but was an avid NASCAR fan. I taught him the sums of multiplication problems by using the numbers on the drivers cars. He learned that the sum of 6x4, and 4x6 was equal to Jeff Gordon's number, which was 24. We did that with every car in NASCAR and people were amazed at how quickly he learned his multiplication tables. Multiplication tables became a breeze to him. I have used similar principals teaching phonics, and reading to young children. I also, have a history of being patient and understanding with elementary aged children.

My teaching style is easy to describe; I consider myself a 'coach' and as such I don't (and wont) give the students the answer to a particular problem, but rather I show them how to (and hold their hand, metaphorically, while they struggle to) find the answers themselves based on first principles, in my experience the only way to get them to really learn. Learning physics is particularly difficult for most students because they have been trained to memorize, not reason things out logically.
