My teaching style allows for the student to have a lot of self-revelation through answering leading questions, practicing hands on when applicable, and reviewing of mistakes—I find it is very helpful to not ‘erase’ a problem when a mistake has been made but to instead circle the mistake and begin again, the error is watching to ensure the error is not repeated. Math should be READ first, understanding that the last part of the challenge in the equation is usually the calculations. Words used in mathematics often have the same meaning as when used outside of a mathematical situation or scenario, and it is the definition that will aide in remembering the formula. My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Taught AP Calculus AB for three years. 40% of my students scored a "5" on the AP Exam.

I have a calm, amiable personality and achieve results by being enthusiastic and building up students so that they feel good about their math abilities. I like to explain math concepts via visual aids (graphs, pictures, charts, diagrams) and an extensive number of examples.

I have two teenage sons, both of whom I have tutored through pre-AP Algebra, the oldest is in pre-Calculus this year. I tend to take a holistic approach, showing "why" the student needs to know the material, and "where" it fits in with other disciplines, instead of just "how" to do it.
When I was in high school, I decided upon attending Oklahoma State University, based upon the fact that OSU sponsored a high school scholastic competition, whereas OU was only known for football. If that does not make me boring enough, I represented my school and placed 8th in the state for Algebra. Not too bad for a small middle-class parochial school.
