American History is one of my top subjects! History was my major in college

I have been signing since I was 2 years old. I was born Deaf and I have also have had history teaching sign language to others. I taught in my church for several years and I have taught in diffrent settings so that people feel comfortable signing. History has always been one of my passions. My comments on tutoring American History : One of my favorite subjects in school. Still read about it constantly.

Very relaxed and encouraging. I use quite a bit of discussion, and I like to ask students questions that lead them down the path to help them discover the answers they seek. I have found that information is better retained if one can guide the student to the conclusion that they seek, building upon the knowledge that is already there. One of my favorite thing is watching stidents' faces when they have the "Aha!" Moments.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that an effective teacher sees him/herself as a guide on a path to discovery, not just a lecturer. When I teach, I like to start by asking strategic questions. These questions help the student focus on the subject and help me find out what they already know. From there, I can guide them through an investigation of the subject by continuing a logical sequence of questions. When we reach a point where the student can not answer my questions, I stop asking and start explaining. By then, the student is focused, interested, and ready to hear what I have to say.
