I believe in the power of positive teaching. I think that most students live up to or down to your expectations. If you expect them to do well, they frequently do. Sometimes all that is needed is for teachers and other persons whose opinions matter to exhibit faith in the student's ability. But it is also often necessary to help them identify what doesn't work and find new approaches that will. Writing is a skill that is crucial to academic success in college; students must excel in writing to do well in an academic environment. Writing is also a useful skill when it comes to thinking and to organizing one's thoughts. I am most comfortable with tutoring students who are preparing for college.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since my years as an undergraduate student, one of my passions has always been giving back to the community through tutoring and mentoring. Over the past eleven years, I have tutored countless times, particularly in research paper and essay writing (in various disciplines), literature, and even mathematics. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and seek to continue giving back in this way!
As an Education Director at a Boys & Girls Club, I taught in the non-traditional sense, through after school literature-enhancing programming of various kinds. I instructed K-12 students, and even parents and staff, on many different levels of achievement and ability, so I am very acquainted with diverse populations and accomodating their educational needs through creative tools and approaches.

I received my first tutoring credential in the early 1970's specializing in prep-school placement tests, college-board prep etc. While attending Grad-School (Temple University) in the mid-70's; I worked as a substitute teacher in the Arch-Diocese of Phila. on a high-school level, primarily instructing History. At seventeen I completed the Evelyn Wood speed reading course, not that that is directly relevant to my teaching style. During the past 20 yrs. I have had a credential in several states, but have tutored only on a volunteer level.
My forte is adapting to the individual student. I have an inate ability to deciper the way each student's mind absorbs knowledge and I am flexible enough in my methodology to adjust to the necessary path.
