I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same. I try to envision at least 3 different ways of approaching a problem, I discuss material but let the students ask questions which I then tailor my explanations toward. Everyone sees a problem slightly differently and if you allow yourself an open mind and creative thinking often you can help them break through a difficult problem because you are able to see it their way.

I have had a variety of teaching experiences since graduating from a small teacher’s college with strict requirements. I have taught geography, physical education, piano, keyboarding, and coached high school sports. Hard work and dedication led to success in my coaching career with a runner-up state title in girls’ basketball. I mention this because it shows I have a good rapport with students as I am able to motivate and set goals successfully. I also have taught all subjects in a one-room suburban school, grades 1-8. I have earned a BA from Calvin College which has certified me to teach at the k-8 levels in social studies and liberal arts and have earned a Masters degree in Counseling Education (certified K-12)which has given me the ability to work wtih students who are difficult to motivate and achieve. During my years, I have gained a wonderful rapport with students of all levels (K-12) while working at Huntington Learning Center. A Little Bit About Me...

I am an innate musician. I've been performing, singing, and playing piano and flute since elementary school and have always adored it. My music experience began with performance where many people from high school through college encouraged me to pursue it professionally. I love to teach, to be of service, to share my natural musicality with choirs, children's choirs, and private students. I finished my B.M. degree and served as pianist, organist, flutist, conductor, singer, choir director in several churches. I've also had private voice students. I also have a Certificate of Completion from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, CA.
