My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the students. I have my Bachelor Degree in History, and I am also a certified substitute teacher. I have several years experience as a child care provider and tutor. I am currently tutoring English as a Second Language, Elementary Math, General Homework help for middle schoolers, and Elementary French. I love to tutor all ages from elementary school students to high school students, and I vary my tutoring techniques depending on the age and needs of my students.

I work hard at leading students to figure things out for themselves. But if they get too frustrated, I will spell things out more in detail. I draw a lot of pictures, but have learned that not all students find this helpful. So I try to present mathematics several ways: with numbers, with pictures, with symbols. At Trinity I gave the students lots of time in class to work in small groups on problems. After earning my doctorate in math in 1966, I began teaching at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant professor of math. I was promoted to associate professor in 1972, and continued there until 1977. In 1977 I moved to South Bend to join a Christian community there. I taught part-time at Notre Dame, St. Mary's and IUSB. In 1981 my community started Trinity School, and I taught there from 1981 until I retired in 2007. From my experience I found that the process of working side by side with my student as they strive to figure out a problem or grasp a concept is what I most enjoy about tutoring. As a person I am patient, responsible, and encouraging. I enjoy being creative to help meet my students’ learning styles and needs, and I know how to prioritize learning tasks to help students focus.
