My comments on tutoring Journalism : Have a BS in Journalism

I am currently a tutor and contract educator in the Richmond area. I have been an instructor at Rice University, and I have been a substitute teacher for the Toms River (NJ) school system. I have undergraduate degrees in history and journalism as well as graduate degrees in history. I have also worked in the public history field as a museum interpreter and educator. I have had years to hone both my oral and written communication skills, from my first fledging writing and public speaking efforts as a student to my more recent work as a teacher and scholar. I have worked with a diverse range of people in my career, including students, teachers, faculty, staff, historians, publishers, authors, volunteers, and the general public. As a College graduate, I was dedicated to the advancement of myself and others. I have earned a degree in Mass Communications, yet have had the opportunity to Substitute Teach, be a Para-Professional, and also teach at-risk student in a one-on-one setting as a Homebound Instructor for 2 years. These experiences have garnered a sense of urgency within me to reach as many students who are at risk; students who often lack the background to challenge them to complete their education. I have taught these students in various subjects including, History, Math, Science, and English.
I love reaching students who are often overlooked due to their lack of mobility and interest to learn in a classroom setting.
