My comments on tutoring Journalism : Have a BS in Journalism

I am currently a tutor and contract educator in the Richmond area. I have been an instructor at Rice University, and I have been a substitute teacher for the Toms River (NJ) school system. I have undergraduate degrees in history and journalism as well as graduate degrees in history. I have also worked in the public history field as a museum interpreter and educator. I have had years to hone both my oral and written communication skills, from my first fledging writing and public speaking efforts as a student to my more recent work as a teacher and scholar. I have worked with a diverse range of people in my career, including students, teachers, faculty, staff, historians, publishers, authors, volunteers, and the general public. In college I was a "student instructor" in my university's writing lab, which is just another way of saying that I was a tutor. Post graduation, I now have experience with journalism as I've written articles for The Style Vibe and Green Label, both highly respected online magazines. Also as a creative writer I have published numerous short stories as well as a few poems. I currently have two novellas under review for publication.
My teaching style is very hands on and unique. I focus on the writer's voice above all because without that, they are only writing words with no soul behind them.
