Life Science is one of my top subjects! Please see my Subject comments under the subject of Biology.

In my career I have taught different levels of biology in a variety of settings to students ranging from preschoolers to adults. What started out as a college summer job teaching children at a St. Louis Zoo camp, grew into a career of being a conservation education coordinator at the Kansas City Zoo. One of my many responsibilities at that job was teaching teens and adults about our zoo animals and training them how to handle them. Besides developing and teaching classes on animals and ecology, I also mentored teens in the K.C. Zoo Explorer Post who were interested in zoo keeping as a career. While attending graduate school at KU, I taught laboratory sections of Introduction to Biology, Human Physiology, and Mammalian Physiology. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, I also trained undergraduates individually to perform experiments in research labs. As adjunct faculty at P ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My #1 goal is to help each of my students reach his or her ultimate academic potential. Every student has the ability to succeed academically. I believe that children learn best when concepts can be taught/explained to them in their own terms. Once a common ground can be extablished between student and teacher the learning process becomes much easier and the students gain the understanding that ultimately leads to academic stability.
I am a high school business and computer teacher. I have taught for 5 years. I throughly enjoy working with and getting to know my students. My degree in English at Rhodes meant that I studied a wide variety of literature, taking both analytical courses and courses that encouraged me to take what I learned from these writers and apply it to my own writing, further developing my skills as a writer, both creatively and as an analytical thinker. This culminated in my senior year, when I studied literary theory and criticism in my senior seminar, and when I was approved to write a manuscript for my senior writing project, for which I received an A, as well as an academic award: the Allen B. Tate Award for Achievement in Writing, Fiction. In high school, my project for National Honors Society was tutoring at a local elementary school and througout college, I volunteered to tutor with various programs.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to share the thought processes I go through when trying to solve a math problem. In high school I struggled with mathematics, which I believe has always given me a special insight into other people's struggle with the subject. In my opinion the best way to teach someone is to simply discuss the subject with them until you get a feel for their learning style, and the present the concepts in a way that will complement their specific needs.
I am currently in my last year of undergraduate work in mathematics at UMKC. I have been an informal math tutor for numerous students in the last few years. Last semester I worked for the UMKC Physics department as a lab assistant for graduate students, and did physics tutoring. I have a strong knowledge in mathematics all the way up through differential equations, and advanced proofs techniques. I realize I do ... read more

When I teach, I am very nurturing and I want to make sure that my students are fond of the learning process. I like to bring a sense of humor to my classroom and not only provide the best education possible, but also provide an enjoyable learning atmosphere. I like when students are provided hands-on learning experiences and I plan to use them frequently when teaching. I prefer to be a guide and a facilitator instead of ruler when I teach, ensuring that the student and I hold a mutual respect and trust. I am quick to build a good rapport with students and believe that this helps me be an educator who they will remember and will make a difference in their lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Grinnell College, I was motivated to achieve at a high level. During my four years of college, I earned a BA in French and Biology. I also spent four months during my third year studying in France, where I lived with a host mother and attended classes at a local university. Currently, I am working toward earning my Master's Degree in Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I tutored college and high school students while attending college, and I currently tutor middle school and elementary students in math, reading, and science.
A variety of instructional methods must be used to engage all students in learning. In order to help a child reach his or her potential, a teacher must be willing to acknowledge that student's learning style and work toward improving the child's weaknesses while also enhancing his or her strengths. Laid back, but encouraging. If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.

I recently graduated from Park University with a Bachelors Degree in both Chemistry and Biology. I was the Vice President of the Chemistry Club where I helped students better understand chemistry as well as many other activities. Originally I wanted to go to medical school or pharmacy school, but have since changed my mind. I find myself to be a very driven individual and love to learn.
I think the teacher can determine the student's ability to learn. I believe I could provide a fun and friendly environment where the student would feel comfortable asking questions. I also think that homework or problems are useful.
