I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests and at the same time earned the International Baccalaureate diploma, so I understand very well the pressures involved. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). I really enjoy the company and conversation of young adults and find I often learn from them as they are learning from me. My teaching style has been to enthuse my students. I find the physical and mathematical models of the world to be fascinating, and try and show how exciting these models are to my listeners. Passing on that knowledge is incredibly rewarding, and I believe that I can present any scientific principal in an interesting way.
I have experience both tutoring degree level students in Geophysics and in mentoring junior programmers in programming C and C++.
