After earning my doctorate in math in 1966, I began teaching at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant professor of math. I was promoted to associate professor in 1972, and continued there until 1977. In 1977 I moved to South Bend to join a Christian community there. I taught part-time at Notre Dame, St. Mary's and IUSB. In 1981 my community started Trinity School, and I taught there from 1981 until I retired in 2007. In 2008 I decided to do missionary work with a group in Indianapolis, and did some tutoring at IUPUI. Last Feb. we moved to Evansville. Last summer I tutored at Ivy Tech . I work hard at leading students to figure things out for themselves. But if they get too frustrated, I will spell things out more in detail. As a tutor I have had 5 years of experience working with students of many different ages and a variety of backgrounds. I majored in Spanish in college, but I have also taught Latin and English. Because of this specialty in language, I understand well how to teach grammar and good reading, writing, and speaking skills. I, also, received a certificate to teach English as a Second Language, which means that I have a solid foundation of education training to couple with my tutoring experience.
