My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : Students aged 5-7 use phonics quite a bit when learning to read. I begin with the short vowels and words that have one-to-one sound correspondence. Next come words that have the "silent e" because rules usually apply fairly regularly there. After that, we begin to learn words with more complex structures. In the meantime, however, the most common sight or "Dolch" words can be mixed in with the aforementioned because it's impossible for comprehension to take place without them. Young children can and do learn these if given enough exposure.

I enjoy humor where appropriate and am very patient with students who need time to understand concepts that are new to them.
I have extensive experience both locally and abroad teaching ESL. I taught in Korea for two years before working at a local ESL school. Within these two positions, I taught ages 5 through adult. Seven years ago, I became a certified teacher in Georgia and have been teaching ESOL in public schools since then. I have published about a dozen poems and one short story. Currently, I am working on my third novel and am looking for an agent. My forte as a teacher is discovering what a student is trying to convey in his/her writing.
