A Little Bit About Me...

In my experience as a student, I have often questioned the teaching methods of many teachers and professors. I sometimes realize more effective ways things could be explained, once I understand it. I am patient and sympathetic with those who misunderstand a concept. I enjoy the challenge of applying my ability to explain a topic from multiple angles of comprehension.
I was raised on a farm in Iowa and attended school there until I was 13. In Zephyrhills, Fl, I was awarded valedictorian status for the class of '09. At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of Daytona Beach, Fl, I am a senior in the Accelerated Master's of Science in Engineering Physics degree program. This is a rigorous five-year program and is focused upon the engineering and physics involved in space systems. I remain in the Honor's Program and on the Dean's List. My comments on tutoring Algebra II : More in depth then Algebra I but utilizes the same fundamentals. As long as you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals then you can acheive success in this subject.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. My tutored students reported an increase in their ability to record class notes, study, and take tests. My previous tutoring experiences have included subjects such as; elementary science, elementary math, Algebra (I & II), Geometry, Pre- Calculus, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology (both College and HS level), HS Chemistry, basic w ... read more

I am an Elementary Education Major at the University of Florida and have helped many students succeed in all subject areas, with a strong focus on Elementary Education. Some subjects that I particularly tutor in include: math, science, english, social studies, and language arts. I also supply a student with supplemental material I feel will help them learn better and at their own, individual pace. For instance, I believe that some students may learn better through visual exercises, and them others may learn through auditory (hearing) exercises. Either way, I try to figure out what a students learning style is and work on that with a student.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Let me start by saying that in my family we have a lot of teachers, so it runs in my blood?. I teach Economics and Business classes. I have been teaching for the past 13 years so I have plenty of experience. I meet 40 new students a month. I taught for several universities online and on campus. I have been taking classes at Daytona State for 1 semester, but like my credentials said, I have gotten awards through them from my Middle School, and high school. I have been tutoring since 2003. I have had multiple students at one time, so group sessions may be common in my teaching. I am in all advanced classes, and I can tutor in just about ever subjects.
I teach either one on one or in groups with the same subject, depending on how many students I get.

I have been tutoring since I started college so I have over 5 years of experience in tutoring math classes and 1 year experience in physics. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored people in math before. Their grades have ranged from 7th-10th grade. I have also helped friends in classes in college that have to do with statistics and other math classes. When I was in high school, the highest math class I had ever taken was Calculus BC. This was the highest math class that my school offered so I believe that I could people pass their math classes in high school and possibly College. I also scored a 730 on the Math section of the SAT.

Education is, after bread, the first need of a human being

Teaching and tutoring are two different entities. If the teacher meets a great number of students in a large room, the tutor works one-on-one in a quiet place. As a tutor, here are my methods: >After reviewing my student's syllabus, I work on what needs to be covered from the agenda. >More often than not, students have gaps in their learning. A good way for me to see where they are fumbling is by asking open-ended questions. >I let my students try to figure out the answers. Showing patience and gentle encouragement reduces anxiety and allows the students to be active in the learning process. >I work out examples. Students' minds need association to absorb some information. >I inform my students when the session is almost over. >I recap my session by explaining briefly what was covered. I ask my students how they benefit from the session. >I confirm the next appointment.

Learning Can be Fun!

I like to allow the student to read the material once and clarity any areas that need more explanation. Then I will allow them to answer questions from the material read and help them where needed to choose the correct answer and understand the reason for the answers. I like to reward a certain level of correct answers with points that can be redeemed for interesting small prizes. I also consider myself very patient and interested in the student having a strong foundation for future learning.
I have tutored children in group and individual piano lessons. I have tutored them in math and social studies. I have spent over 20 years in business in the accounting field and prepared countless financial statements and income tax returns. I am skilled in all things mathematical. I also speak Spanish through over 9 years of instruction.
