Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

As a trainer I have over 12 years of experience. My most recent position required me to offer alternatives to individuals and then assist them in implementing their choices. I developed internships and mentor programs for a large corporation. The remedial training program I developed was used nationally by the corporation. I am an excellent individual tutor as well as a classroom presenter. Reading and elementary math are my strong points.
My first approach is to capture the student’s interest in the subject. I am a flexible instructor, willing to try different approaches to stimulate the learning process. My approach is tailored to the student’s needs and interests. This makes the student want to learn and try harder. When that drive is in place and the partnership develops there is no end to what can be accomplished! This is a strong point in my teaching style.

My teaching experience covers a period of thirty seven (37) years in which time I have taught children and adults of all ages and cultures using time-tested methods to enable students to enjoy and truly grasp learning. Servicing students under most conceivable educational theories: public schools, private school students, homeschoolers, Workforce immigrants, GED candidates, beginning teachers, etc., I have seen remarkably positive transformations of my students' attitudes toward learning, as well as, toward themselves.
My teaching style is highly personalized and tailored; firm, but friendly, has been an expression quite often used by administrators and parents to describe my demeanor. Once my students feel comfortable enough to truthfully reveal what they actually know and do not know, they realize that that is not a problem. No one knows everything. But it is instilled in my s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very different, but I love being able to differentiate my lessons to best suit my students. I do believe that all children have different learning styles, so when I deliver instruction, I try to combine the types of styles and incorporate kinesthetic activities for the students to visually see and have that hands on experience. I believe repetition helps children to learn and grasp instruction as well. Through repetition and correct delivery, the student will be able to remember and recall the facts they need in order to succeed in those areas of academics. Teaching is always a learning process. You learn new ways and ideas everyday.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in the public school system since 1996 in the area of teaching substance abuse and violence prevention. In 2002 I became the director of after-school programming under a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in the Polk County Schools. I organized all aspects of after-school tutoring programs for 14 schools, elementary through high school. Right now I am substitute teaching in the Duval County school system.
I love teaching children in creative ways. I recognize that all children (and adults) learn differently and therefore it is important to me to design ways for children to learn in their own way. That's why we had such successful after-school programming while I was the director. We designed a variety of classes so children could excel in their own way. I strive to provide quality services to children so they can be successful in school.

Because I was fortunate enough to receive an education, I always felt compelled to give back to the community in the same way. From my years at Summerbridge (now Breakthrough Miami), I tutored elementary and middle school students in math, literature, English, science, and history. Afterwards, attending a prestigious liberal arts college allowed me to keep up with my various academic passions in addition to high school tutoring. I studied sciences and math to fulfill my pre-medical focus while working on writing and research with my degree in history.
From my experience with my own education and in tutoring others, I realize that there is no such thing and an ignorant child. Rather, a successful student is a hard worker who often times needs a little guidance and patience. Because I am an easy-going and flexible person, I am able to connect to the child in fun and interesting ... read more
