My comments on tutoring Reading : I have a BA in English

While in College I was a part time nanny for a single Mom with twins. I started taking care of the twins when they were 2 and continued until they were almost 4. I was an assistant teacher part time at little playmates preschool daycare. During my time there I worked with the 2 and 3 year old class and the 4 and 5 year old class. I also helped the older children with homework. I was responsible for helping with meals, playtime and supervising outside activities. My style of teaching, especially with tutoring, is to find out what kind of learner my student is: tacit, oral, or verbal. Then the lesson style can be geared to that, while leading the student to become more aware of the other abilities and options. Also, it is imperative that students understand why they are learning what is being presented to them. Daily observance of grammatical errors, such as on restaurant menus, on printed literature, and on school assignments made my decision to major in English much easier. My English degree necessitated that I write multiple essays that focused on grammar, coherence, elimination of wordiness, and other aspects of proper English writing. The editing and medical writing courses approached writing from a slightly different angle, while the traditional grammar course further revealed the connection of all words to each other in a sentence; nevertheless, it was another opportunity to better my writing ability.
