I am studying Cellular and Molecular Biology at University of Cincinnati. I will graduate in May 2015. I have taken and excelled at Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Cell Structure and Function, Genetics, Biology, Ecology/Evolution. I have also taken math through Applied Calculus I. I was awarded University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College's Biology Student of the Year in 2013. I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and also the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Science is similar to math where it is important to practice problems. I mostly tutor Organic Chemistry, in which I prefer to help individuals work out extra practice problems (or those assigned by the teacher) to practice concepts. I have a similar approach in the other subjects I tutor. It is best in science to work out hard problems outside of class because then it reviews all concepts needed to answer these ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style revolves around the idea of mastering important aspects of a subject area before moving to a more difficult subject area. In our current education system, students are allowed to move to more difficult courses without having the necessary building blocks. Through one-on-one tutoring, it is possible to take a couple steps back, assess a student's current capabilities and tailor lessons to the individual student (i.e. one student may need to back track and practice fractions before moving on to more difficult algebra). I also enjoy working with students are looking to excel beyond their grade level by challenging their problem-solving capabilities with new ideas and techniques in a variety of subject areas.
In between obtaining my BA in political science and English from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and returning to school for chemical engineering I spent a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an English major, I spent all 4 years at my private instutition tutoring my fellow students, not only in English and writing courses, but in all academic classes in which I had received a grade of "A" or "B". 3 of my 4 years at Lindsey Wilson were spent in the Education department, as I originally wanted to be a high school English teacher. I also spent several summers as a Camp Counselor, working with children aged 7-15 as well.
I like to determine my teaching style by first evaluating a child's current progress and learning style. Learning is a very individualized process, therefore, teaching must also be individual. I am a relaxed person, and I like to find a way to relate material to a child in a way that he/she will not only understand, but retain. Flash cards are great for some children, and other children will learn better with a pneumonic device, while still other le ... read more

I have circled myself with music my entire life. I began playing clarinet at age ten, and during my college years I studied music theory and composition while majoring at piano. I am often complimented on my ability how to teach others music parts and instruction. I am slow and precise with the student to understand not only each segment of instruction but the why and how it fits into the music. It’s part of a complete understanding of not just playing a part, but also harmonic content and structural form that makes the music piece its special qualities. I’ve taught private students from beginning piano to an Elvis impressionist. Today my career is built around music, and I welcome any students I can share my abilities with.
My compassionate teaching style will be tailored specifically to the student at the level he or she is at. It is essential to make this experience fun, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in allowing students the room to direct their own learning. Students who believe that they play an important role in their own education find a deeper level of satisfaction and pride both in their abilities and in their studies. Learning should be fun and exciting and offer students the ability to challenge themselves, explore their world, and see the value of knowledge and academics. Individual instruction is an ideal learning environment and offers the opportunity to tailor a student's program of study to their own unique learning style and interest.
I am currently a graduate student at Wright State University majoring in English Literature. I am also a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for the English Department and have developed a deep admiration for working closely with students.
