My first experience as a tutor happened my second year in college. She was an elementary student with behavioral problems. After four sessions, I resigned from that position. A month later, I found out that she was autistic. She taught me a very valuable lesson. Before I can tutor, I must first understand what kind of learner the student is. Although, I did not pursue a teaching degree, I have taken this principle with me in all the teaching assignments I have had. I have been an adult software instructor for a year, instructor of general studies for seasonal workers, summer school math tutor for disadvantaged elementary students, and most recently an elementary and middle grades substitute teacher.

Helping people resolve problems is something I enjoy doing. I understand that not all people learn the same way, so I am very patient in giving my instruction. I believe that a good foundation is needed when learning mathematics, and attempt to break math concepts down for the student to learn. I really think mathematics is a lot of fun, and try to impress that upon the students.
My background is technical, having 20 years in the IT industry. However, my credentials include two technical degrees, both of which are math intensive (BS/ME, BS/CS). I have earned a Doctoral degree in Medicine and a Masters degree in Public Health concentrating in Epidemiology and Bioststatistics. As a research scientist, some of the subjects that I had to do well in were math, biology, chemistry and physics.
