A month later, I found out that she was autistic. She taught me a very valuable lesson. Before I can tutor, I must first understand what kind of learner the student is. It's important to quickly assess the strengths of your pupil and devise a way to tutor in a way s/he will have the maximum benefit. In Science, I typically rely on teaching students by drawing analogies to everday situations to explain abstract concepts. I find this to be very effective. During my career as a Business Analyst for one of the top 5 consultant firms, I made time to teach a Microsoft Office computer course in the evenings. I started out as the classroom assistant and then became the lead instructor. I was able to utilize my degree in Computer Information Systems and my analytical skills.
