I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. So what is my teaching style…anything that helps a student achieve his or her potential. But the one thing I teach all my students is how to find their learning style. Ever since I was in high school, I have always enjoyed working with children in a variety of situations. I helped out in a second grade classroom and enjoyed helping students understand their classwork. Even in college, I enjoyed helping my friends with math and writing. Last year, I taught a self-contained sixth grade classroom and this year, I taught a multi-age first and second grade classroom in the same school.
My creativity allows me to come up with different teaching ideas depending on the child's needs. Differentiated instruction has helped me to reach the needs of all learners and positive reinforcement has helped to motivate students to want to do well. As a graduate of The Kings College the professors taught me the value of working with children on an individual basis. They taught me that there are many different learning styles a student may have. I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result). I really want to help kids succeed in school and be in charge of their learning even after I am no longer their tutor. I like to inspire them to learn.
As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager.
