I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding. Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico. I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.

I spent 2 years in mexico teaching in spanish. During some of that time i was the teacher for english classes. I graduate this december with my bachelors in physics, experience of working with classmates and helping other students as they helped me gave me years of experience working as a team on homework assignments. I have found through my teaching that there is a motto that works very well in most situations. "Teach in such a way that it is impossible to not understand" basically if one can teach a complex subject in such a way that even a child can understand it then you are successful as a teacher. But with physics that is not always possible. It is all about the person learning not for me to hear myself talk and get through a lesson. All that matters in the end is what the student learned coming out of the the instruction.

It was a drive within my nature or inner self to pursue a course in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology as I attended college at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. My direction following those events led me to teach as an assistant teacher and then as a classroom teacher at a private school working with the young children in Preschool and Kindergarten.
