Through my teaching experiences I have discovered that each child learns different and I feel it is my job as a teacher to recognize the child’s strengths. When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.

I believe that all students can learn. I think that one of the cornerstones of my teaching style is having high expectations for my students. Though each student has different skills and abilities, most can be engaged to use the skills he or she brings to learn if the student knows that his or her teacher believes he or she can learn and if that teacher presents the content in an interesting way. I believe in using humor and real-life examples to help students see why what we're learning relates to their lives. I want all of my students to come away from my classes with new ideas, skills and enthusiasm for learning.

I have an innate instinct to teach and a drive that brings me great satisfaction from teaching. In working with children from preschool age through high school, I have come to recognize the uniqueness of each age group but have developed no preference as I enjoy working with all children. I have found that I have been able to meet the needs of the most challenging students both academically and behaviorally in a wide variety of environments. From all of my vast experiences I have found that I can teach anyone, anytime, anywhere and they will learn no matter what challenges are present. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children for over ten years. I specialize in helping children who struggle with comprehending math and English. I understand that all children cannot learn in the same manner. As a tutor, I use several different curriculum materials to help students who do not learn with just paper and pencil alone. Math and English can be abstract to young students; and very difficult when one does not understand how to reach students. I believe I have the skills required to reach any child who struggles with learning. Once a child grasps the basic skills, they can learn anything!

I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. A Language Arts teacher may be knowledgeable about reading and writing, but has to find creative, interesting methods and activities to make students want to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching people and believe everyone can learn anything. As a visual learner, I like to show and tell the subject matter. My style is very relaxed and I search for "real world" examples people can connect with. My mother gave me the gift of being a "great story-teller," so I enjoy applying my examples into some sort of memorable story or event. I am passionate about learning and strive to share my enthusiasm with others. Every day life teaches me something new and I consider myself a lifetime learner.

I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one. I also have experience in teaching or helping coach little league sports educating kids on how to play games correctly. I have also been an assistant coach and helped out at Clinton Community College with girl’s softball under the head coach.

I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. However, my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when the reality of “schooling” was revealed. I no longer felt joy, but heartache at the systemic annihilation of inner-city children. However, one thing inspired me to keep coming to teach, day after day, despite the school’s limited supplies, lack of safety, and irreverence for aesthetics; it was the will and determination of my students. They came to school day after day, excited to just learn and receive reassurance that education is liberating and knowledge is power. It was with these students in mind, along with my own children an ... read more
